Description: The Australian Government is pleased to announce a joint initiative with Victoria University to deliver a series of online training modules in 2024 to support practitioners and clinicians in Australia and NZ involved in the assessment and management of individuals radicalising to violent extremism.
This specialised set of online training resources is aimed at clinicians within a forensic or health setting who are working with neurodiverse clients engaged in violent extremism. It will also be of benefit to police working within counter terrorism (CT), countering violent extremism (CVE) or Fixated Threat Assessment Centre (FTAC) environments.
This is the second of four modules that form part of this online training resource. The four training modules incorporate all aspects of the ‘Framework for the Assessment of Risk and Protection in Offenders on the Autistic Spectrum’ (FARAS), presented by the author of the FARAS, Professor Zainab Al-Attar. Each of the four modules will focus on different aspects of the FARAS and include information relevant to co-morbidity issues, specific issues in adolescence, and CVE intervention strategies relevant to each characteristic of ASD. After completing the training, practitioners will have a greater understanding of how violent extremism interplays with different characteristics of autism, as well as practical strategies for working with neurodiverse clients engaged in violent extremism.
This training is designed to build workforce capacity to assist in the assessment and intervention strategies for those working with neurodiverse clients engaged in violent extremism.
